Thomson ST780WL Bridge mode w/ Custom Gateway

When you set up the ST780WL in bridge mode it uses its own IP (192.168.1.254) as the default gateway. If your real network gateway is at some other IP (192.168.1.1) then the ST780WL will not have internet connectivity.

I could not find a way to set the default gateway for the main interface on this device using the web interface, so I used the console. [How to access the console (telnet 192.168.1.254) is described in detail elsewhere on the web.]

Once logged in type

:ip rtadd dst=0.0.0.0 gateway=192.168.1.1

where 192.168.1.1 is our default gateway.

To test type

:ip rtlist

This should show

0.0.0.0/0 192.168.1.1 LocalNetwork 0 [UP]

at the bottom.

Ping an Internet host to test. (I think this can be done on the web interface too).

:ip ping proto=ip 8.8.8.8

8.8.8.8 is one of google’s new public DNS servers. The other is 8.8.4.4. It’s easy to remember and likely to be up. You can’t use a domain name because the ping command expects an IP. Also you don’t know if DNS is working at this point anyway.

If that works type

saveall

to save your configuration and type

reboot and later repeat the rtlist command above to make sure the configuration sticks.

Mozilla Thunderbird – Send Message in the background

When you compose an email with Thunderbird (all versions) and hit SEND, the compose window will remain open until the email is sent. This is annoying, especially when you’re sending big attachments.

I wanted the compose window to disappear as soon as possible since Thunderbird will warn me if there is an error anyway.

So Click Edit/Preferences/Advanced and select the General tab. Click the Config Editor button and accept the warning (which should really be removed, it is worthless). In the Filter box enter ‘sendinback’ which will filter the list so that only

mailnews.sendInBackground will be visible. Double click it so the boolean Value becomes ‘true’.

Restart thunderbird. Now when you click send after composing an email, the Compose Window will disappear as soon as possible (still not as soon as I’d like).

puf ne yapar

Puf sabah uyanır yatağıma gelir. Önce hop diye bir zıplar. Fakat ben “hayır” deyip onu aşağı indiririm. Ondan sonra orada bekler. Bir süre sonra yatağa tırmanmaya çalışır. Ben yine “hayır” deyip ittiririm. Bu sefer oturur beklemeye başlar. “Gel” dersem, dediğim anda atlar. Demezsem bir süre sonra sıkılıp gider.

Geldiği zaman genelde yaptığı da ısırma oyunudur. Neden ısırıyor oynarken diye merak edebilirsiniz. Parmaklarını kullanamadığı elleri ve konuşamadığı bir dili var.  Başka ne yapsaydı?

Sert oynamaya başladığında “hayır” derim. Sanki ısıran o değilmiş gibi, yalamaya başlar. Dili sıcak ve ıslaktır. Bir de yaladığı yer pis kokar. Ama olsun.

ostrava – praha

Ostravada işim bitmiş, hızlı tren Pendolino ile Prag’a döneceğim. Hızlı trende rezervasyon yapmak gerekiyor. Bunun için de güzergah biletine ilaveten 200 CKR ücret alıyorlar. Bu trenle 350 kmlik yol 3.5 saatte gidilebiliyor. Tabi rezervasyon gerekmeyen daha yavaş trenler de sürekli işliyor bu hatta.

Trene binip yerimi buldum. Bu sırada babam arıyor Türkçe konuşuyorum. Az ilerdeki bir gençle göz göze geliyoruz. “Merhaba” diyor. Türk.

Telefonu kapattıktan sonra “Merhaba.” diyorum. Bana yer numarasını bulmam için biletini uzatıyor. Sadece bilet, rezervasyon yok. Bu trende zorunlu rezervasyon uygulandığını söylüyorum. Anlamak istemiyor. Bilet istedim bunu verdiler diyor – tabi bilet isteyince onu veriyorlar doğru, normal.

Hiç tanımadığım için Çek Cumhuriyetinde yaşıyor sanıyorum ama herhalde öyle değil, çünkü Çek dilini konuşmuyor. Anlaşılan başka bir dil de konuşmuyor.

Adına, görevli ile ben konuşuyorum. Görevi olmadığı halde, biraz da ufflayıp puflayarak, bir sonraki trenin 30 dakika sonra olduğunu, ona binebileceğini, veya 200CKR verip bir koltuk tutabileceğini anlatıyor.

Genç cebine elini atıyor. 50CKR ve bozukluklar. Bende para olup olmadığını soruyor. “Üzerimde yok” diyorum. 50CKR para ile Ostrava’dan kalkıp Prag’a gidilir mi? Bir kahve parası. Demek ki gidiliyor.

Bir dahaki trene binebileceğini hatırlatıyorum. Tamam diyor. İnerken son bir kez.

“Abi sende varsa ver ya!” diyor.

eşkıya

Oturduğum binanın arkasında Şehitler Parkı denen bir park var. Bakımlı bir çim alan, bayrağı yere dikmiş “düşmüş asker”, ve mermer kaplama bir duvarda ölen askerlerin isimleri — rütbe sırasına göre.

Dediğim gibi güzel bir park. Ben de diğer köpek sahipleri ile birlikte Puf’u orada gezdiriyorum. Hepsi Golden Retriever olduklarından çok iyi anlaşıyolar ve alt alta üst üste oynuyorlar.
